Rolling Dog Farm began their involvement with the Shelter Challenge during the very first challenge in 2008, when they were known as Rolling Dog Ranch.
For the last five years, this no-kill sanctuary’s legion of supporters have shared the word worldwide and helped vote them to a grand total of $46,000 in Challenge grants, one of the highest and most consistent run of “wins” in the history of the Challenge that includes a Grand Prize and several large runner-up awards.
Steve Smith blogs continuously reports the group’s status in the Challenge as well as sharing stories of the animals helped. The Challenge grants “helped us pay for all the important things that make running a place like this possible,” he said in a recent report.
Darla, a blind dog taken in by the farm, received cataract surgery in July and “now can see again for the first time in years,” Smith said.
Since 2008, more than 370 shelters and animal rescue organizations in the United States, Canada, and elsewhere have received more than $1.3 million in Shelter Challenge grants. Funding for Shelter Challenge grants comes from The Animal Rescue Site. The distribution of grants and the collection of reports about how grants are utilized is done by the Petfinder Foundation under the oversight of GreaterGood.org.
